5/86 ELECTRONIC SCALES - PATENT - DAIWA SEIKIN WINS CASE

Packaging Machinery corporation, a Massachusetts based maker of electronic
scales has agreed to pay Daiwa Seikin damages and royalties for a patent held
by Daiwa on computerized electronic scales. Daiwa started to sell such scales
in the US from 1981. Its patent was registered in the US from 1983. From 1983
Packaging Machinery began sales of electronic scales which Daiwa claimed
violated its patents. Litigation has been ongoing for two years. Now Packaging
Machinery has agreed to pay Daiwa damages for past infringements and royalties
for future sales.
